This metal detector-the 'Pirate'- was originally designed by this Russian forum. It's a pulse induction (PI) type detector.
basic components
NE555
TL072
IRF 630
BC 547
BC557
The rest of the components are the same as in the schematic.
coil
0.4-.06 diameter magnet wire
18 turns
20 cm diameter
power supply
test supply:two 9volt batteries in parallel
normal supply:12 volt big battery. Best is a 12volt motorcycle battery but heavy. You can even use 8 AA batteries.
Original schematic diagram found here.

The pcb layout in actual size.Print it as is. (Updated 14-11-2015.Fixed some mistakes.)
To make the pcb you can use the method described here.

You can you a wooden embroidery hoop to wrap around your magnet wire.I've used an 18cm diameter hoop and then fixed the magnet wire around it with silicon glue.

The outer hoop with the metal piece is not needed. |
Just use the internal hoop. |

What you should take into account.
The positive of the battery should be as close as possible to the IRF630.In the image below the 'battery plus' is the closest point.
Also, the connection from the middle pin of the IRF630 to the positive rail should be as thick as possible.
